Learning horizontally: the wood workshop Werk Statt Konsum

The Werk Statt Konsum is an open woodworking workshop, offering the opportunity to realise projects to people that don't have the proper tools or enough space at home. It provides also support for building, repairing, reusing and upcycling. Since May 2014, the workshop has been located on the premises of the Alte Mu. Due to growing demand, it was expanded over time and moved twice.

There are over 200 square metres of space to work in, consisting in a large workshop, a storage room, a sanding room and a machine room, which for insurance reasons may only be used by association members.

The wood often is donated by private individuals or enterprises, but sometimes it takes a lot of work in advance to make it usable for our guests. The team now consists of around 30 dedicated members who organise the operation on a voluntary basis.

During the opening time, anyone interested can simply drop by without registering. The offer is aimed at all interested parties, from experienced crafters to beginners. There are always members of the team on site to give new visitors an introduction to tell them what they need to bear in mind in our workshop.
