Foresta's explorers. Four stories of people involved in the community based project Foresta
Foresta is the story of a large area of sloping land in the northern suburbs of Marseille.
This artificial piece of land, created during the construction of the Grand Littoral shopping centre, is now a natural area. There was a project for a public park, but the investment and management costs seemed too high for the local authority, and the land now belongs to private owners, who suggested that Yes We Camp take over the site.
So, for four years, they met with local residents and stakeholders from associations, the economy and education. With them, Yes We Camp organised workshops to discover the park, and cultural and production activities using the materials available.
To meet their expectations, and with the help of a large number of volunteers and partners, the entrances and pathways have been designed; built a Base-vie, a House for Project Developers made of straw and earth, games and sports equipment, and other modules; designed the shapes and uses of the park; made practices safe; received and supported project developers from a variety of backgrounds.
What about the future?
In 2021, Yes We Camp passed the torch to local players, through an agreement to hand over the project to a 100% local structure, the Foresta Association.
Today, the municipality of Marseille is considering purchasing the land in order to bring back this metropolitan park to the community.

Meet the people who are bringing the park to life!
